The coming service year will be a unique challenge, different from all the others. Returning members, Liandra Reyes and Bianca Sciocchetti spoke about Bianca’s experience with remote service and starting the new service year in-person. Bianca is serving at the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn for a second year. Currently the Boys & Girls Club is a Supervised Learning Center, meaning that the youth can go to the Boys & Girls Club for their remote learning on days they aren’t physically in school. Bianca and Liandra discussed what service looked like when the pandemic hit and her excitement now being back in-person.

Plans for the Woburn Parent Network were made early in 2020, and quickly adapted to meet challenges parents face during the pandemic. During our first two presentations we had over 100 parents join us, clearly we were on to something! The WPN kicked off with a very helpful presentation by SCI Board member Jennifer Mahon, about how developing a structured routine can be helpful to families. This was followed by “Teens, Tweens & Quarantines”, presented by Jon Mattleman. The WPN returned to help parents during the return to school with a program from Woburn parent Kristen Herlihy. You can view videos of our collected programs here.

The Woburn Parent Network is a collaboration between SCI Woburn, Woburn Public Schools and The James L. McKeown Boys and Girls Club. This project is funded through CHNA 15 DoN funds from Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.
