Nepalese/American Street-Food Fair flyer

Join the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer this Sunday, June 25 from 4-8pm at their Nepalese/American Street-Food Fair! It will be held at the church location, 60 Forest Park Rd., Woburn MA. There will be lots of good food, music & plenty of parking! The event is a fundraiser for Justice For Our Neighbors (JFON), to provide legal services for immigrants living in and near Woburn. 

Ticket prices are as follows:
$30 per person
$25 for seniors
$50 for couples
$80 for family of 4
$70 for family of 3
Kids under 8 eat free

Food available will include: Nepalese dumplings (momo), grilled veggies, corn on the cob, ribs, burgers & hot dogs, Newari-style spicy chicken (chhoila), Nepalese-style chicken (sekuwa), fruit salad & watermelon.

The Horn Pond Summer Concert Series kicks off on Saturday, June 10 with the Austin Torpedoes, a band with local ties to Woburn who has performed for the series previously. The concert will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horn Pond, along the flat grassy area of Sturgis Street, otherwise known as Ice House Park. This concert is sponsored by the Woburn 375th Celebration. The Austin Torpedoes are a Boston-based band who perform an eclectic mix of tunes in their own distinct way. Their unique sound combines elements of many American musical styles such as blues, jazz, country, western swing and rock. The band covers songs by a wide range of artists including Duke Ellington, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, The Beatles and Chuck Berry.

This is the fifteenth year that the Horn Pond Summer Concert Series will entertain Woburn residents. The concerts are a perfect way to spend summer nights with your fellow community members and enjoy the beautiful Horn Pond area.

Woburn's 375th Anniversary Family Fishing Festival flyer

Don't miss Woburn's 375th Anniversary Family Fishing Festival this upcoming Saturday, June 10 from 9am - 2pm at Horn Pond! There will be lots of fishing, boating, children's activities, free drinks and burgers & other free family fun! The event will be held on the Lake Avenue side of Horn Pond and is sponsored by Mass Wildlife and Woburn Lodge of Elks #908.

The Family Fishing Festival will take place rain or shine and no fishing license is required. You can bring your own fishing equipment or there will be plenty available there! Other activities include: Boating in Boston, children's activities with the Woburn Middlesex Lions Club, "The Nature of Horn Pond" film screening and the first Horn Pond Summer Concert that night!

SCI staff with "$100K for 100" sign

Social Capital Inc. (SCI) is one of 100 local nonprofits this year to receive a grant of $100,000 through Cummings Foundation's "$100K for 100" program. The Woburn-based organization was chosen from a total of 549 applicants during a competitive review process.

 

"We are thrilled to receive this grant from the Cummings Foundation," commented SCI President and Founder, David Crowley. "The significant, multi-year support will enable us to make substantial progress on important issues facing our communities."

 

Representing SCI, David Crowley and John Franson, Board Chair, will join approximately 300 other guests at a reception at TradeCenter 128 in Woburn to celebrate the $10 million infusion into Greater Boston's nonprofit sector. With the conclusion of this grant cycle, Cummings Foundation has now awarded more than $170 million to local nonprofits alone.

Flyer for Red, White and Rosé Wine Tasting

Get ready for summer with the Red, White and Rosé Wine Tasting to benefit SCI! This will provide you with the chance to sample some great wines to enjoy this summer, along with an assortment of appetizers. Connect with other community members over some good wine & food, while supporting a local charity. The tasting will be led by Jennifer Murray, DWSET, Certified Specialist of Wine, from the Urban Chef catering company. Tickets are $25 in advance. The tasting will take place on Thursday, June 8 from 4-7pm at J. Mulkerin Realty (616 Main Street, Woburn MA).
