Looking for youth interested in panel on race relations!

Youth engaging in conversation

SCI Woburn, in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club, is planning a youth event on the topic of race relations in Woburn. We are seeking youth volunteers who would be interested in acting as panelists for the event. We are hoping to recruit 4-5 panelists in total. Their role in the discussion will be to respond to a series of questions regarding the topic of racism locally, thus facilitating an open dialogue with the audience.

If you are interested in volunteering as a youth panelist, or you know of anyone who might be a good fit, please contact Mollie O'Brien at mobrien@socialcapitalinc.org.

Fall Clean-Up for Veterans Day

Fall Clean-Up image

As part of SCI's Woburn Volunteers for Seniors program, we are holding a fall clean-up day this Friday, November 11 in honor of Veterans day. The clean-up will begin at 2 pm at the Woburn Senior Center. After running through some logistics and gathering tools, the volunteers will split up into groups to head out to the different neighborhoods where we have flagged seniors in need of yard work.

We have already gathered the forces of such groups as the high school's Spreading Sunshine and St. Vincent dePaul's Junior Society, but we are always looking for more help! If you're interested in coming out on Friday afternoon to do some light yard work and help our Woburn seniors in honor of Veterans day, please contact mobrien@socialcapital.org.

Woburn's Annual Veterans Day Parade

Veterans saluting

This Friday, November 11, the United Veterans Council of Woburn and the Department of Veterans Services for the City of Woburn will be hosting the annual Veterans Day parade and ceremony. The parade service will begin gathering at 10:15 am at the Woburn-Winchester line (at Cross and Main streets), and will commence at 10:45am in the direction of the Woburn common. It will be here that the ceremony will begin at 11 am.

This year's ceremony will be honoring the men and women who bravely served in Vietnam, as this is the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Veterans can register to have their name announced in a Vietnam roll call as part of the service (three separate sites will be available that morning to register). Also included in the ceremony will be a roll call for the 13 killed-in-action Vietnam soldiers from Woburn.
