Jerry Thornton is the author of “From Darkness to Dynasty: The First Forty Years of the New England Patriots.” From their humble beginnings as a team bought with rainy-day money by a man who had no idea what he was doing, to the fateful season that saw them win their first Super Bowl, Thornton shares the wild, humiliating, unbelievable and wonderful stories that comprised the first 40 years of what would ultimately become the most dominant franchise in NFL history. Brief Friends’ Annual Meeting from 6:45 to 7 p.m. before beginning the talk at 7 p.m. on October 17th.

Friends of the Woburn Public Library's Ice Cream Social

Friends of the Woburn Public Library will be hosting an ice cream social event on Sunday, July 30 from 2-5pm at the North Suburban YMCA (137 Lexington St., Woburn MA). The event is $5/person and $3/child aged 12 and under. There will be games, activities, music and fun for everyone! Also, some great drawings to enter, including: ice cream party in a basket, 3-month YMCA membership, family fun passes and $50 worth of scratch tickets. Rain date will be August 6.
 

Woburn Public Library Speaker Series: LGBT in the Mass Media

Join the Woburn Public Library in inviting Journalism/Communications Professor Amy Callahan for another part in the Woburn Public Library Speakers series. Professor Callahan will be presenting "From Absence to Ellen: A Survey of LGBT Representation in the Mass Media." It will explore the transition from the negative and harmful portrayal of the LGBT community in the mass media, to its current state, one in which LGBT individuals are portrayed much more widely yet in still often controversial depictions. 

The program will begin at 7pm at the Woburn Public Library. It is running in partnership with the Friends of the Woburn Public Library and the Northern Essex Community College Speakers Bureau.

Friends of the Woburn Public Library: Paint Nite Fundraiser

The Friends of the Woburn Public Library will be holding a Paint Nite Fundraiser at the Scoreboard in Woburn on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m.  Come join us for an evening of creativity and fun. All painting supplies will be provided for you as you channel your inner artist and get a jump start on enjoying warmer weather by painting your own version of “Large Water Lily” as you sip a glass of wine (or beverage of your choice) from the cash bar.
