This is Mary Cummings Park's second Art Walk, inspired by Andy Goldsworthy's much-loved book, "A Collaboration with Nature", Goldsworthy showed us how one could connect with nature to create marvelous, magical, temporary sculptures using natural materials found in woods and fields.

Vernal Pool Walk at Mary Cummings Park

On Saturday, April 1 at 10am join Nancy Lin, a local naturalist and vernal pool enthusiast, on a walk through Mary Cummings Park. Nancy will guide walkers, showing them the unique properties of vernal pools, look for signs of life in the pools and answer questions! She will also be sharing her special knowledge of the outdoors.

Two to three vernal pools will be visited - don't forget to wear waterproof boots as it can be muddy this time of year! Meet at 10am at the Burlington soccer field on Blanchard Rd. (near the big blue water tower). The walk will go until noon.

On Saturday, October 1, join The Friends of Mary Cummings Park for a bird watching walk with expert Diana Fruguglietti. We will explore the varied habitats of the Mary Cummings Estate. Meeting Place: Parking lot on Blanchard Rd in Burlington. 10:00 – noon.

We go ahead with our walks unless there is HEAVY rain. Always prepare for and be alert for ticks: spray with insect repellant, tuck pants into socks, etc.

 

February Nature Walk at Mary Cummings Park

The Friends of Mary Cummings Park February Walk: Animal Adaptions for Surviving the Winter
Saturday, February 7th, from 10am to noon.

Ever wonder how animals survive these bitter days and nights? From tiny chickadees and chipmunks up to raccoons and deer, animals have ways to survive and thrive in conditions we could never handle.

On Saturday, June 7 the Friends of Mary Cummings Park will host their monthly photo walk. The walk will take place from 10 am until Noon and Linda Schwartz will be joining the walk as the guest naturalist. She has worked at both the Stone Zoo and the Franklin Park Zoo. She has a broad knowledge of nature and is an avid nature photographer.

Friends of Mary Cummings Park

On Saturday January 4, the Friends of Mary Cummings Park will host their monthly photo walk. The walk will take place from 10 am until Noon at Mary Cummings Park. Burlington photographer Jon Sachs will lead the walk. He has extensive experience with nature photography. Some of his nature photography can be found here. The park has a wide variety of habitats, including fields, forests, wetlands, and much more.
