volunteer opportunities in woburn

Share your talents with young students! Do you love working with youth? Consider volunteering to lead a class of sixth to eighth graders in the "Be Great Graduate" after-school program at the Joyce Middle School in Woburn.

This program is advised by SCI AmeriCorps Youth Leadership Coordinator Dorothy Gannon who serves at the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn. Each day the kids will participate in a fun activity such as cooking or science projects.

If you would like to volunteer to lead a class and do a fun activity with middle school students, please contact Dorothy Gannon at dgannon@socialcapitalinc.org.

The sky's the limit when it comes to volunteering options at NuPath Inc, a vocational day program and residential network for people with developmental disabilities and autism. There is something for everyone!

Volunteers can do everything from teaching classes in gardening, sports, cooking, photography and painting to simply being a buddy to NuPath's residents during activities. Volunteers can participate in arts and crafts, play a board game or simply provide company for the individuals at NuPath's headquarters in Woburn, Westford Day Habilitation Center or any of the several residences around Middlesex County.

NuPath can accomodate individual volunteers as well as groups of people from companies, schools or church groups, to name a few examples. Groups of volunteers are great for helping to spruce up the buildings with new coats of paint or livening up the gardens.

If you are interested in volunteering with NuPath, please contact Leigh Wilmot at lwilmot@socialcapitalinc.org or (781) 935-7057 ext. 3092.

Want to share a piece of your culture through music or dance? SCI and the YMCA International Learning Center are currently looking for people or groups who would be interested in volunteering to do a 15-30 minute performance at WorldFest on Sunday, May 19th from 2-5PM.

WorldFest is all about celebrating diversity in the community, and putting on a great festival for the whole family to enjoy! If you would like to be a part of this fun and welcoming celebration, while showcasing your culture through music or dance, then apply to be one of our performers this year!

If you would like to volunteer as a performer, please fill out the application form attached below. If you would like more information, please contact Candice McLaughlin at (781) 935-2244 or cmclaughlin@socialcapitalinc.org.

social media

Do you enjoy using social media for social good? Consider joining SCI's Social Media Team! This is a fun and simple way to make a difference in your community.

Social Media Team volunteers will get the chance to spread news about SCI and local events sponsored by SCI and other community partners through social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. It's a great opportunity to increase your knowledge about social media outreach and connect with others interested in using social media for social good!

All you need to participate is access to the internet or a device with which you can connect to the internet, basic knowledge of Facebook and Twitter, and an active Facebook and Twitter account.

Team members will receive an e-mail once a week with sample tweets prepared by SCI on community events and social capital topics. Team members can then re-tweet designated tweets on Twitter or share designated posts on Facebook.

Social media can be a great way to engage the community and share information and resources! The Social Media Team greatly assists SCI's ability to reach more people and make a bigger impact in the community!

If you would like to volunteer for this, please contact Candice at cmclaughlin@socialcapitalinc.org.

Each week, we spotlight a new volunteer opportunity on the "Volunteer Here" button on the SCI Woburn website. Be sure to check it often for fun and exciting ways to become more involved in the Woburn community!

We strive to be a community resource! If you have or know of a volunteer opportunity that should be featured on the SCI Woburn website, please e-mail Candice at cmclaughlin@socialcapitalinc.org
