A Letter to the Editor from Karen Colatrella, Food Pantry Director
Last year, the Woburn Community Gardens, sponsored by the Woburn Conservation Commission, was kind enough to provide two plots for Council of Social Concern’s Food Pantry. A volunteer spearheaded the whole idea, provided the seeds and planted the crops. When he moved out of state, two other volunteers stepped up to water, weed, harvest and deliver the produce to the Food Pantry. Needless to say, this was an incredible amount of work, and these three amazing individuals have our undying gratitude!
I can’t tell you how much it meant to our Food Pantry clients from Woburn and Winchester to have fresh produce available last summer. Because it is expensive to purchase, it was a real luxury to have this healthy, nutritious food available at their Food Pantry visits. Winchester Hospital also participated by providing recipes and suggestions for using the vegetables that were harvested.
