Meet the Author of The Art Forger

On Thursday, March 20 The Burbeen Free Lecture Series will host one of this week’s Woburn Reads events. Woburn Reads will continue with a visit from Barbara Shapiro, the author of this year’s selection, The Art Forger. In 1990, thirteen masterpieces were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. This incident is the backdrop of The Art Forger, in which a struggling artist is asked to copy one of the stolen masterpieces, and must deal with the consequences.

Woburn Reads Discussion at the Senior Center

On Tuesday, March 18 the Book Club at the Veterans’ Memorial Senior Center will host a discussion on Barbara Shapiro’s novel, The Art Forager. This discussion will take place at the Veterans’ Memorial Senior Center located at 144 School Street in Woburn beginning at 1:45 pm. Join the members of the Book Club for their discussion on the book and some light refreshments. Come share your views and comments on this literary thriller with others in the community. Is Claire Ross an artist or a forager? Did she do the wrong thing for the right reasons?

Art and Inspiration

On Wednesday, March 12 the Woburn Guild of Artists' President, Joseph Leto will present his lecture Art and Inspiration. This event will take place at the Woburn Public Library located at 45 Pleasant Street at 7 pm. Joseph Leto will take attendees on a tour of where famous artists get their thoughts and ideas for their works of art. During his lecture, Keiko Richter will paint her own masterpiece from the inspiration she feels, exhibiting the creative process. Her focus is to capture the atmosphere and the spirit of the subject as well as emotional response to it. 

Coffee and Conversation about The Art Forager

On Thursday, March 13 the Friends of the Woburn Public Library will host Coffee and Conversation about The Art Forager. This event will take place at the Woburn Public Library located at 45 Pleasant Street in Woburn beginning at 7 pm. Barbara Shapiro's The Art Forager was the book selected for this year's Woburn Reads event. The Art Forager has been on the New York Times Bestseller list, as well as a list published by the Boston Globe. Join Andrea Baker, Assistant Director of the Woburn Public Library, for coffee and conversation about the selected book.

Woburn Reads Kickoff Event

On Thursday, March 6 the Woburn Historical Society and Friends of the Woburn Public Library have teamed up together for the launch of Woburn Reads 2014, a community reading experience. Woburn Reads will have several events taking place throughout the month of March. The first event will take place at Woburn Memorial High School located at 88 Montvale Avenue beginning at 7 pm. The book that was chosen for this year's Woburn Reads event is titled "The Art Forager" written by Barbara Shapiro.
