youth development

The Woburn Youth Council (WYC) is a program designed to place young people in middle and high school in leadership roles to help address community needs. Under the guidance of AmeriCorps advisors, council members are able to participate in community service opportunities based on their interests. Members will earn volunteer hours for each meeting and service-learning event they attend and are eligible for service awards based on those hours. The WYC meets every Tuesday at the Club, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The Woburn Youth Council at the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn is a youth group (ages 12-18) committed to doing service learning projects in the Woburn community. Two AmeriCorps members from Social Capital Inc., Yekaterina Filippova and Ashley Napear, have been advising the Youth Council as they embark on numerous service learning projects throughout the year.

The mini-grants that the Youth Council will be giving away to youth-based community service learning projects is one of their many initiatives. The Youth Council is encouraging groups of youth to apply for one of their mini-grants of $100-$250 to help them implement a service learning project in their community.

To apply, youth should fill out the application attached below. The grant application process is an opportunity for youth to learn about the grant-writing process and financial opportunities for service learning projects. An adult may act in an advisory role to facilitate this process, but the youth should be responsible for coming up with the project idea and completing the application.

The applications are due by February 4th either by mail, electronically or in-person drop off. You can mail them to:
