New AmeriCorps Members for SCI Woburn
Social Capital Inc. is happy to announce that through a special competition they have been awarded 9 new half-year AmeriCorps slots. The 9 new AmeriCorps members will serve from the mid-January until the end of June 2012. Two of these AmeriCorps Members will be here in Woburn; one at the Boys and Girls Club, and one at the YMCA International Learning Center.
Miriam Bernstein is joining the Social Capital Inc. AmeriCorps team as an Outreach and Technology Coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn. She will be working towards developing a strong volunteer management system for them over the course of her five months of service. In addition, she also will be spending half her time at the SCI Woburn office connecting citizens with information to participate in civic life. Miriam is coming to Woburn from Michigan, having just graduated with her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan School of Social Work.
The YMCA International Learning Center is still seeking a candidate to fill their AmeriCorps position. This Outreach and Technology Coordinator will assist in preparation for WorldFest Woburn!, focusing primarily on increasing outreach into the community in order to grow the number of volunteers, attendees, and participants at this year’s festival. The Outreach and Technology Coordinator will put new systems in place to increase the effectiveness of preparations for the event which will be utilized for years to come. As well as assisting with WorldFest Woburn! preparation, the Outreach and Technology Coordinator will also support school technology services by providing assistance to students learning new technology, help in the Computer Lab as needed, and assist in developing and piloting a Distance Learning program that will enable the International Learning Center to reach out and connect with immigrants in the community.
