NuPath raises over $10,000 during “Laugh Out Loud”

NuPath’s newest event “Laugh Out Loud” proved to be a smashing success, raising over $10,000 from the proceeds of ticket sails, raffle donations, and silent auction bids. The event, which took place at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham on September 28th, was headlined by Showtime’s “Funniest Person in Massachusetts” comedian Tony V., who kept the crowd of 150 roaring throughout the night.  All proceeds from the event, which boasted not only an unforgettable performance by Tony V. but dance music by the band Strictly Overtime and a delicious buffet dinner went to support the 350 adults with developmental disabilities that NuPath serves.

The night began with cheese, crackers, a gourmet buffet dinner and cocktails to the musical stylings of the classic rock band Strictly Overtime. Event-goers had the chance to mingle with old friends as well as make new ones as they perused the silent auction table which boasted twenty-two items, from week-long ski lodge stays to autographed sports memorabilia. One attendee expressed her delight at winning a painting done by one of the individuals that NuPath serves, “This is so beautiful,” she remarked, “this guy paints like a professional!”

After the cocktail hour, Tony V. took the stage to make the audience’s sides split with jibes at everything from his disobedient (but lovable) kids to his failed diets. In typical Tony V. fashion, he introduced himself with a beleaguered, “I’m sorry for my appearance tonight…but  this is what I look like.” The crowd stayed doubled-over until Tony V. relinquished the spotlight to Strictly Overtime, and then everyone was on their feet for the rest of the night.

NuPath's Development Coordinator, Tricia Botnovcan, planned and managed the event. She tirelessly reached out to small businesses and community members to collaborate in order to make “LOL” come to life. After the event, she expressed elation at "LOL's" success: "This event was about more than just getting a few laughs. We're honored to be able to provide quality entertainment for the community we serve and love. Some of the men and women NuPath supports made it out tonight to mingle with other community members and express their gratitude to them for coming. It was an unforgettable night!" When asked about the importance of community interaction in the lives of the individuals she serves, Tricia invokes NuPath’s mission statement: “The mission of NuPath is to provide for people with disabilities the support needed to live, work, learn, grow, and participate to their fullest potential in their community. We want to give back to the community that supports us and let them know that they are appreciated. In events like LOL, everyone wins.”

Although attendees let their hair down to dance and recounted their favorite Tony V. one-liners, no one ever forgot the driving force behind the night and NuPath’s mission.
