Screening of Traces of the Trade : A Story from the Deep North

Social Capital Inc. (SCI), St. John's Baptist Church, and Woburn Memorial High School are very proud to present a screening of Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North. The film will be shown Thursday, November 13th at 7 pm in the Woburn Memorial High School Auditorium.

Traces of the Trade Producer/Director Katrina Browne offers a new and provocative perspective on the slave trade by telling the story of her family's role as the largest slave trading family in United States history.  The film follows ten descendants as they journey along the Triangle Trade route.  Browne's moving documentary captures her family's emotional examination of their role during slavery and dispels the myth that slavery was solely a Southern enterprise. Traces of the Trade is a compelling documentary which not only offers its audience the opportunity  to reflect  on the often untold story of the North's role in the slave trade, but also provides a context to discuss ways in which citizens can work to build connections among diverse individuals and organizations today.

Following the screening,  two members of the "Traces family", SCI Board Chair Dain Perry and his wife Constance, will facilitate a discussion on the film and how the legacy of slavery affects our community and the nation today.   We hope that many members of the  community will join us for this special evening.
