Woburn's Tannery History on Local TV

October 30, 2008 by Scott

woburn tanneryThe Telly Award winning documentary "Woburn: A Leather City" will be shown on local cable access TV twice in the following week. The film will be shown on Friday, October 31st at 4 PM. and Sunday, November 2nd at 3 PM. The program will be on channel 10 for Comcast customers, channel 13 for RCN viewers, and channel 45 for Verizon subscribers.

Produced by the Woburn Historical Society, the 37-minute film captures one of the most important eras in Woburn’s history. It details the rise and fall of the tanneries and the effect that the industry had on the city.  The tannery era literally changed the makeup and the politics of Woburn. It evolved from a farm-based town to an industrial city known worldwide for its leather products. The film also allows us a personal and touching glimpse into the daily lives of the workers whose existence was far removed from the opulent lifestyles of their bosses.

McElhiney and Lucero of the Woburn Historical Society wrote the script and interview questions to drive the production. Ouellette provided the technical and creative resources to ensure that the story was told seamlessly.

Those who miss the public showings of the video or who would like to have their own copy of the film can purchase the DVD for $15 (includes shipping and handling) by sending a check made payable to “Woburn Historical Society” and mailing it to PO Box 91, Woburn, MA 01801 (put “Tannery DVD” on the memo line), go to www.WoburnHistoricalSociety.com to download an order form or call 781-287-0260
