Harvest Wine Tasting in Woburn on Nov 20 will benefit SCI

SCI will kick off this holiday season with a Harvest Wine Tasting on November 20th from 4-6pm at J. Mulkerin Realty. The event will feature a tasting led by Jenifer Murray, DWSET, Certified Specialist of Wine from The Urban Chef, Inc. catering company, as well as some light appetizers. SCI and J. Mulkerin Realty teamed up to host a wine tasting last year as part of its biannual Holiday House Tour. It was such a success that SCI President David Crowley decided to bring back the tasting as a standalone event this year. J. Mulkerin Realty is located at 616 Main St, Woburn. Special thanks to Joanne Mulkerin for graciously hosting this event!

Advanced tickets for the Harvest Wine Tasting are available through Friday, November 18, for $25 and can be purchased at: http://cart.socialcapitalinc.org. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door for $35 each while supplies last. All proceeds will benefit Social Capital Inc. (SCI)

Community Forum on Race Relations A Success

Audience members discussing issues at forum

St. John's Baptist Church, in collaboration with SCI, held the first Community Forum on Race Relations this past Friday, October 28. There was great turnout from the Woburn community, who engaged in an honest and candid conversation with the discussion panel, consisting of five community leaders and one Woburn Memorial High School (WMHS) student. Among the panel were Mayor Scott Galvin, St. John's Rev. Dr. Neal Pearson, Woburn United Methodist Church's Rev. Dr. Yoo-Yun Cho-Chang, Police Chief Tom Ferullo, Superintendent of School's Mark Donovan, and WMHS sophomore student, Francis Kitiibwa. The forum was moderated by SCI's David Crowley, alongside Ron Walker.

As the first in what we hope to be a series of related forums, it was a great success for not only SCI and St. John's Baptist Church, but for the community of Woburn as a whole. At the end of the forum, Rev. Dr. Neal Pearson thanked the audience members and panelists, "Let's not make this one night only. Let's come up with a plan to make this two nights, three nights, however long it takes."

Mark your calendar for this year's 62nd Woburn Host Lions Club Halloween Parade, which will be taking place this Sunday, October 30th at 1 pm! The parade is an amazing display of community spirit, as over 80,000 people join together to watch the bands and floats, and celebrate the true spirit of Halloween. You won't want to miss it! The parade route starts at the Crowne Plaza Woburn and travels down Main St. through Woburn Center, ending at Horn Pond.

SCI is looking for volunteers!

SNOW

SCI is currently seeking volunteers of all ages to help local Woburn seniors in the upcoming fall and winter seasons. The project intends to match isolated and handicapped seniors with local volunteers to assist them with outdoor chore activities, such as snow shoveling and leaf removal. By collaborating with the Woburn Senior Center and the Woburn Council on Aging, SCI hopes to engage community members to aid and support their local senior citizens!

As the winter season quickly approaches, SCI will be working with the Woburn Senior Center to implement this program again. We are looking for volunteers of all ages who would be interested in helping! This is a great way to get involved in the community, meet local seniors, and also earn Y.E.S. hours! If you're interested in participating, or have any further questions, please contact mobrien@socialcapitalinc.org.
