volunteer opportunities

Beacon Hospice Logo

Do you have the Heart of Hospice? Become a Beacon Hospice volunteer.

A hospice volunteer offers companionship, support, a helping hand to patients with terminal illnesses. No matter who you are, you have something to offer hospice patients. You can make a profound difference in a person's life whether it is a 15 minute visit, writing letters, playing music, or just sitting quietly, holding a patient's hand. Volunteers play an integral role in Beacon Hospice's team approach to care that focuses on comfort, dignity and peace for the patient and their family.

Are you interested in gardening?  Have you been told that you have a green thumb?  If so, this may be the volunteer opportunity for you!

A few volunteers are needed to help in the Woburn Community Garden.  Volunteers are needed to work 2-4 garden plots that were set up last year to raise fresh produce for the Food Pantry.

If this gardening project is something that interests you, please contact Karen Coletrella via email or through the Council of Social Concern at (781) 935-6495.

Babysitting

The North Suburban YMCA is a family center, and that means there are a lot of kids in the building every day. The babysitting room, Child Watch, offers parents a safe and fun place to leave their children while they exercise or take other children to Y classes. If you like to play with kids and help with crafts and activities, this opportunity is right for you! Help is particularly needed during the morning hours (8:30 am to 1 pm or any time in between).

Contact Rebekah at the North Suburban YMCA at (781) 935-3270 to talk about the different opportunities and to receive a volunteer application.

If you are interested in being part of this year's committee, contact Karen Rice at krice@socialcapitalinc.org or (781) 935-2244.

North Suburban YMCA

The North Suburban YMCA is looking for a few volunteers to help out at their Family Movie Night on Saturday, January 28.  This event is open YMCA members and the community.  If you are interested in volunteering at this event, or for more information about volunteer opportunities at the YMCA, please contact Rebekah at rscaduto@ymcaboston.org.

SCI is celebrating ten years at the 2012 SCI Social Capitalist Luncheon taking place on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the Sheraton Boston Hotel.  We are looking for volunteers to help check guests in at the registration table from 10:30am - 12:15pm.  This is a great networking event!  Volunteers are welcome to stay for the luncheon and awards ceremony with a complimentary ticket!  If interested, please contact Karen Rice at krice@socialcapitalinc.org on or before February 16, 2012.

Starting today, a new volunteer opportunity will be featured each week on the “Volunteer Here” button on the SCI Woburn Website.  Be sure to check it often for new and exciting ways to become more involved in the Woburn community!

We  strive to be  a community resource!  If you have or know of a volunteer opportunity that should be featured on the SCIWoburn website, please email Rebekah at rscaduto@sciwoburn.org.
