Don't miss Woburn's 375th Anniversary Family Fishing Festival this upcoming Saturday, June 10 from 9am - 2pm at Horn Pond! There will be lots of fishing, boating, children's activities, free drinks and burgers & other free family fun! The event will be held on the Lake Avenue side of Horn Pond and is sponsored by Mass Wildlife and Woburn Lodge of Elks #908.

The Family Fishing Festival will take place rain or shine and no fishing license is required. You can bring your own fishing equipment or there will be plenty available there! Other activities include: Boating in Boston, children's activities with the Woburn Middlesex Lions Club, "The Nature of Horn Pond" film screening and the first Horn Pond Summer Concert that night!

SCI is now looking for individuals in the community interested in joining this year's Horn Pond Summer Concert Series Steering Committee! Committee members will be responsible for attending meetings every 3-4 weeks, as well as general organization, publicity and set-up for the concert events.

Fishing Derby and Family Day at Horn Pond

The Woburn Elks are hosting a fishing derby and cookout at Horn Pond (the main location on Lake Ave.) from 9am-3pm on June 10. There will also be face painting and kayaking, and the debut of Woburn Historical Commission's historical homes publication.

Have you walked Horn Pond and wondered what was out in back of the Lagoon but were afraid to take that dirt road for fear of getting lost? Then come along on this free and open to the public walk on Sunday, May 15th at 9:00 am and on Thursday, May 19th at 4:00 pm. The Thursday program has a rain date of Friday, May 20th at 4:00 pm. Both walks will begin at Ice House Park on Sturgis Street.

It has been a wonderful summer! Finish it off strong at Horn Pond with Jo Henley playing the final free concert on Friday, August 28 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, courtesy of sponsor, Salem Five Bank.

Co-founded by longtime musical collaborators Andy Campolieto and Ben Lee, Jo Henley is a Boston-based roots-rock band that has been winning over fans and critics alike since 2006 with their unique blend of rock, folk, country, and bluegrass. Campolieto’s and Lee’s mutual love of all forms of American roots music shines through in Jo Henley.

Grupo Fantasia, Latin Jazz/Merengue Group to Play at Horn Pond – Sponsored by: Michael de la Maza

Thanks to sponsor, Michael de la Maza, Grupo Fantasia will be playing at Horn Pond on Friday, July 31 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. If the weather is not cooperative, the venue will be moved inside the barn at Spence Farm, located at 41 Wyman St. in Woburn.

Angel Wagner, musical director of Grupo Fantasia and master percussionist, plays more than 30 instruments. Angel has studied at the Harbor Arts Academy in New York, The Berklee College of Music in Boston and in the 1990’s, tutored on congas under Grammy nominee, Giovanni Hidalgo. Currently, Angel is a band leader, percussion teacher, director of the Wagner Multicultural Workshop and percussionist in his band Grupo Fantasia.

This week, SCI received a letter from an anonymous Woburn resident about environmental conditions as the snow melts. After spending hours cleaning off the bottoms of our shoes from a recent trip to Horn Pond, we cleaned up the language a bit and have decided to share it.
