State Rep. Jay Kaufman’s award winning public policy forum, “Open House,” resumes this month with the always-challenging topic of public education. The forum, “Public Education: Overcoming Resistance to Change,” will be held Thursday, March 19th, 7:30 p.m., at the Historic Depot in Lexington Center. The conversation will begin by looking at and attempting to answers the following questions: Why are schools so hard to change? What kinds of changes are necessary? What happens when you try a new path? What are the obstacles and what are the opportunities?
On Thursday, January 22nd, Rep. Jay Kaufman opens the new year with a special edition of "OPEN HOUSE" as he is joined by fellow legislators who also represent any part of the three communities that comprise the House 15th Middlesex District, Lexington, Arlington, and Woburn. Hosted at the Historic Depot, in Depot Square in Lexington, an expanded 90-minute format has been reserved for this show, as regular Open House attendees will note the early start time of 7:00 PM, with the show concluding at the regular time of 8:30 PM.. Come early to this special show and hear directly from area lawmakers on what to expect in this next legislative session. Learn about what bills each legislator has filed as his or her priorities. Find out what steps the state is taking to help energize and grow a stagnant economy. See how close collaboration helps regional communities tackle the tough problems we all face.

State House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi, D-Boston, will be the next guest at Rep. Jay Kaufman’s public policy series, Open House. It will offer the audience a rare chance to hear directly from the top legislative leader in the 160-member House of Representatives. DiMasi will discuss the challenges of balancing a $28 billion budget in a recessionary economy.
What will be the impact on local services? What kind of educational programs might be cut under such a scenario? How quickly can we turn things around? How does the Presidential race determine our choices? The forum, “A Conversation with the Speaker,” will be held Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 PM. at the Depot Building, 13 Depot Square, in Lexington Center.
