The event was once again, very successful.  WREN raised over $2,100 for the Reeve's PTO and another $200 for the Woburn HIgh Scholarship Fund.  The drop-offs were steady for the entire four hours and there was a great group of volunteers.  Once again, a triple win...... for the environment, the Reeve's PTO and saving residents and businesses money!

The Woburn Conservation Commission is holding its annual Conservation Day event on Saturday, May 2, 2009.  The event begins at 9:00 AM.  There will be a sign in table at the Cove Street entrance to the Horn Pond Conservation Area for volunteers to check in and find out what area they will be working in.  All are welcome to come, help out, enjoy and appreciate the area.  It is a great day to meet your neighbors, old friends and make some new ones!  You can make a difference.  For students seeking community service credit hours - make sure that you let us know at the sign-in table know that you will need proof that you participated so that you can receive credit.

Cheryl Heimlich, of Heimlich Nurseries, will teach you how to create a lush and fruitful garden by increasing the yield from your garden. Learn what to plant, choosing seeds or transplants, care and maintenance, companion planting and container gardening. We will be seeding herbs to compliment your garden, also there will be a question and answer session.

WREN Education Series is pleased to bring you "Vegetable Gardening 101" an informative class by Megan McCue of McCue Garden Center. Learn things that New Englanders must do in the early spring to have a bountiful spring and summer vegetable/herb garden. The class will consider soil preparation, including testing for proper ph, necessary soil amend.  This class is taking place April 18th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the McCue Garden Center located at 200 Cambridge Rd. in Woburn.

Come an enjoy a Half-Day Bird Walk led by bird experts Diana Fruguglietti & Paul Ippolito.  Paul and Diana have travel to many places around the world tracking exotic birds and have lead many "walks" for WREN at Horn Pond and other local areas. The walk will be taking place on Sunday April 5th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and will be meeting at the corner of Water Street and Sturgis Street.

Environment Massachusetts is teaming up with other grassroots environmental organizations from across Massachusetts to sponsor "Environmental Action 2009," a conference that will bring together organizations, activists and decision-makers to share skills and information, as well as find ways to work together for a greener Commonwealth.  The conference will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston located at 550 Huntington Avenue.

horn pondAn exhibit of Woburn native and nature photographer Geraldine E. Kehoe's work will be presented at the Aberjona River Gallery located in the Aberjona Nursing Center at 184 Swanton Street, Winchester from November 23 through January 8th. The public is invited to a reception for the artist from 3-5pm, November 23. This will be an exciting opportunity to witness breathtaking photographs of local wilderness areas. The gallery is handicap accessible and refreshments will be served.
