With all of the snow we've received so far in 2015, keeping the neighborhood fire hydrants clear is certainly a priority. Most of us know that if not cleared out, snow can easily turn into ice, creating an unnecessary and dangerous challenge to the fire department if they needed to use the fire hydrant. Neighbors should all take part in ensuring their hydrant stays clear: it's never just "one person's job."

If you're ever having trouble clearing out the snow/ice around your fire hydrant in Woburn, contact Woburn Fire Department at their Administrative Office: 781-897-1380. See their website here

Most fire hydrants have an antenna on them to let the Fire Department see where hydrants are if covered by deep snow, and to let plows know not to pile snow on them. If your fire hydrant does not have one of these, you should contact the Woburn Department of Public Works: 781-897-5992. See their website here

Fire hydrants are routinely inspected (flushed), usually biannually. If you believe your fire hydrant needs to be inspected, contact the Woburn Water Department at 781-897-5940. See their website here

Dog License Renewal Due

From date:
Mon, 03/16/2015 - 4:00pm

From the City of Woburn website:

All dogs residing in the city must be licensed with the City Clerk by March 16, 2015 to avoid a late fee. All licenses expire on December 31st of each year.

“We have had over 1400 dogs registered so far,” said City Clerk William Campbell. “But we have over 1000 still to come in. Forms were sent with the local census and last week reminder cards were also sent out.”

All Woburn census forms should be returned to city hall by Friday, May 9, advises City Clerk William Campbell. More than 16,000 forms were mailed to all households about two months ago. Under Massachusetts State law, if there is no record of receiving a census return, the city must mail a confirmation card to all voters. If you have not mailed your form back, please do so this week. Campbell adds “It will save you the inconvenience at the polls and will save the city money for additional printing and postage costs”.

On Saturday, May 3 the Woburn Recreation Department will host the City Wide Yard Sale. This event will take place throughout the day at various locations throughout the city. The Rec Department has been busy creating the maps of the homes that will be participating within the yard sale. These maps should be available online and at City Hall on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. The homes participating in the yard sale will be represented by signs provided by the city. For more information, contact the Rec Department at 781-897-5805.

The deadline to avoid paying a late fee for dog licenses is Monday, March 17. Woburn ordinances require that any dog over 3 months old must be registered with the City Clerk. The license fee for unaltered male or female dogs is $15. For spayed and neutered dogs the fee is $10. After March 17, the fee will increase to $30 and $25. Questions can be directed to the City Clerk's Office, 781-897-5850. Mail the attached form to the City Clerk's Office, Woburn City Hall Clerk, Woburn City Hall, 10 Common Street, Woburn, MA 01801.
