Public Hearing About FY2011 City of Woburn Budget

There will be a public hearing about the Financial Year 2011 City of Woburn Budget on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.  It will continue, if necessary, at the Regular Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.  The city government is required by law to hold this public hearing.

Tickets are on sale at $1 each for an ice cream social scheduled for Thursday, August 6th at the Woburn Senior Center, 144 School Street.  Entertainment begins at 1pm featuring singer Greg Curtis, sponsored by the Cultural Council.  Ice cream sundaes will follow at 2pm and the event will conclude with a door prize drawing.  The Woburn Senior Center is fully air conditioned and handicap accessible.  For transportation information contact 781-897-5964.  Tickets to the event may be obtained at the reception desk at the Woburn Senior Center or phone 781-897-5960 for further information.

meet and greet eventLast night's community meet and greet event was enjoyed by all. It provided great opportunities for new members of the community to familiarize themselves with various organizations in Woburn. Turnout was good, and the food was fantastic! Lots of thanks goes out to Bahamas Grill for providing food for the event, as well as the North Suburban YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club, the Council of Social Concern, the Woburn Senior Center, WREN, and Safe Harbor Community Programs for taking part in welcoming these new members to the city of Woburn.

North Suburban YMCAWith summer just around the corner the North Suburban YMCA, located at 187 Lexington Street, reminds residential pool owners to take some time to learn about water safety and how to care for your pool.  This June the North Suburban YMCA will offer the following classes to help residential pool owners prepare for the
summer.

Basic Water Safety — June 30 to July 2, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Lifeguarding Class — June 22 to June 26, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Learn To Swim Weeks — June 22 to June 26

Flag DayThe Woburn Kiwanis Club will host its 30th annual Flag Day event on Friday and Saturday, June 19-20, at Library Field, across from the Woburn Police Department. Friday is family night and bracelet night. Events will take place from 6 to 10 pm. There will be a carnival, with rides and games. Ride bracelets are $15 per person and $14 with a discount coupon. The bracelet guarantees an unlimited number of rides all night long. Dee-Jay AL Sablone will also be there to host the family block party and play music for all ages.  Saturday’s events will run from 4 to 11 p.m.

New Woburn residents and anyone looking to learn more about Woburn happenings are invited to the free Woburn Community Meet and Greet. Come learn about the fun and exciting ways to connect with your neighbors and community on June 17th from 6:30pm -8:00 pm.  Join Social Capital Inc.(SCI) and other community organizations that are eager to share what they offer you and opportunities for you to become more involved.   The Woburn Communtiy Meet and Greet will be held at the New Horizons at Choate-Terrace Lounge located at 21 Warren Ave here in Woburn.
