Below you will find a list of currently available volunteer opportunities around Woburn. The list is currently heavy on opportunities from SCI but we would like to add more…please email your volunteer listing to krice@socialcapitalinc.org
Student Volunteers Needed at the Library this Summer
Summer volunteer opportunities at the Woburn Public Library are available for students entering grades 6-12. Teens are invited to complete applications in the Children’s Room through the month of May. Late applications will not be considered. Because there are only 20 openings, and many more than 20 students apply, acceptance is not guaranteed. Those accepted will be notified during the second week of June. A mandatory orientation for those who have not volunteered at the library before will be held on Monday, June 14, at 3:30 pm. This summer promises to be a very busy one, and we look forward to having some interesting volunteer experiences on tap!
Serve Lunches to Underprivelaged Youth
The North Suburban YMCA in Woburn has become a partner with the Project Bread program.
Each summer, they create a pool of volunteers to serve lunches to underprivileged kids in the community. Every week day June 28th through September 3rd, volunteers take lunches to the Green Street Pool and distribute them to kids who need them.
They're beginning the recruitment process now! If you're looking for a summer project, or just want to help a day or two, this is a great way to give back in the lazy summertime when need is still around.
You can pick a few days here and there, or you can commit to one a day a week for the whole summer. All of our volunteers need to be trained before starting up; there will be a training on Thursday, June 10th at 5 pm in addition to others yet to be determined.
If you're interested in helping out, let us know! Help a child in need this summer and feel accomplished year round.
Do you have a skill to teach?
NuPath is looking for volunteers to teach classes to adults living with developmental disabilities. This is a great opportunity to share your talent with others and make a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve. Examples of classes needed are: photography, painting, money management, computer skills, cooking, etc. (the sky's the limit!)
Classes can be held during the weekdays, evenings, or weekends depending on the volunteers schedule. Although availability for multiple classes is preferred, we will gladly accomodate a volunteer who wants to teach a one-time class.
