Resources for the return to school

Over the past month we've had two Woburn Parents Network workshops to help parents address the stress that parents and children may experience with the return to school later this month.

Kristen Herlihy, local mom, life and fitness coach and licsw presented “Feeling Anxious? Emotional School Supplies for an Unexpected Year.”  It discussed clearing away emotional triggers, mental road blocks and hidden feelings by learning coping skills for establishing a balanced academic year. Jon Mattleman, the Clinical Director for Minding Your Mind's New England area office, presented a workshop entitled "Back to School: Re-entry and Resilience". In the workshop Jon addressed how we can support our children as they get back to school and help them manage ongoing challenges. With his signature compassion and humor, counselor Jon Mattleman provided attendees with context to the factors impacting this school year, highlighting the resilience we've all shown during this challenging time, and how we can use that to be a source of strength, stability, and support for the youth in our care. Woburn Parent Network, a collaboration between SCI Woburn, Woburn Public Schools and The James L. McKeown Boys and Girls Club, was formed in April to help bring relevant programming to and encourage productive conversation between the parents of Woburn.

This project is funded through CHNA 15 DoN funds from Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.

The goal of Woburn Parent Network is to connect parents and families in Woburn with each other for mutual support and with the resources necessary to thrive.  Community connectivity and support is essential now more than ever before due to the global health crisis we are experiencing.
